REGISTRY NEWS…
The Registry of Motor Vehicles FasTrack self-service kiosks allow eligible customers to skip the Registry line and renew their license or ID card or request a duplicate license/ID on their own in less than four minutes!
FasTrack service is currently available at Boston’s Haymarket branch as well as branches in Worcester, Springfield, Watertown, Brockton, Plymouth, Wilmington and South Yarmouth.
Customers will still need to go to a counter if they require an eye test, are 75 years of age or older, are receiving their first license or have any outstanding financial obligations. The FasTrack process is quick and easy:
• Eligible customers take their own photo using FasTrack.
• Customers using FasTrack should read each question carefully; an unintended answer may stop the transaction.
(When the kiosk prompts that it is time to take a photo, step
back to the yellow footprints on the floor. Customers will
need to remove glasses, hats and head coverings.
• Payment is required via a debit or credit card.
• FasTrack prints a temporary credential just as the RMV does
following counter service, and the permanent license or ID
will be sent to the customer’s address on record.
You can check out details in the new video FasTrack Self-Service on
YouTube.

Are you a distracted driver??
With PROM and GRADUATION season upon us —
It’s important for you to educate yourself and your
children on the dangers of distracted driving.
Here are some tips to share with your
children and to keep in mind now and
throughout the year:
- Be a role model for your children by
establishing a family policy prohibiting
texting or talking on the phone while
driving.
- Remember that distracted driving goes beyond
talking or texting. Other forms include adjusting a
radio, CD player or iPod; using a navigation system;
talking to passengers; eating and drinking; watching
videos; grooming; and reading.
- Take your awareness of distracted driving to the
social media universe, sharing information with
your friends, family and coworkers on Facebook,
Twitter and other websites.
- Talk with your teens about the risks and
responsibilities of driving and the danger of dividing
their attention between a phone and the road. Make
sure they know the facts and stats related to
distracted driving.
New Law RE: Use of headlights
New Law RE. Use of Headlights
The Legislature has passed a new law that would require drivers to turn on their headlights whenever they turn on their windshield wipers. The new law, M.G.L. c. 85, § 15 takes effect on April 7, 2015.
As a result, the list of surchargeable incidents has been amended by adding two new requirements effective April 7, 2015.
- Motorists are now required to turn on headlights and taillights whenever the windshield wipers are on.
- Motorists are also required to turn on headlights and taillights when visibility is reduced so that persons or vehicles are not visible at 500 feet due to insufficient light or unfavorable atmospheric conditions.
The requirement to turn on headlights and taillights 1/2 hour after sunset and 1/2 hour before sunrise has not changed.
Below is the wording of the new section of the law:
- A vehicle, whether stationary or in motion, on a public way, shall have attached to it headlights and taillights which shall be turned on by the vehicle operator and so displayed as to be visible from the front and rear during the period of 1/2 hour after sunset to 1/2 hour before sunrise; provided, however, that such headlights and taillights shall be turned on by the vehicle operator at all other times when, due to insufficient light or unfavorable atmospheric conditions, visibility is reduced such that persons or vehicles on the roadway are not clearly discernible at a distance of 500 feet or when the vehicle’s windshield wipers are needed; provided further, that this section shall not apply to a vehicle which is designed to be propelled by hand; and provided further, that a vehicle carrying hay or straw for the purpose of transporting persons on a hayride shall display only electrically operated lights which shall be 2 flashing amber lights to the front and 2 flashing red lights to the rear, each of which shall be at least 6 inches in diameter and mounted 6 feet from the ground.
